.SYNOPSIS...Dry conditions with above normal temperatures and
breezy afternoon winds will continue through Saturday. Change in
store Sunday as an upper trough moves into the region, bringing
cooler temperatures, but little in the way of precipitation.
&&
.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Thursday night
Quiet conditions under southwest flow aloft continue for tonight
and Thursday across Nevada. This means that dry conditions under
mostly clear skies, above normal temperatures in the mid 70s to
mid 80s with lows in the mid 40s to mid 50s, and breezy afternoon
winds out of the W-SW at 10 MPH to 20 MPH with gusts up to 30 MPH,
will continue the next few days.
&&
.LONG TERM...Friday through next Wednesday
Breezy and warm to end the week Friday, with gusts 20-25 mph in
the afternoon and highs in the upper 70s and low 80s. An upper
level short wave trough comes on shore in Oregon overnight and
transitions over northern Nevada by Saturday afternoon. This
system brings cloud cover and slightly cooler temps before high
pressure builds back in. Afternoon high temperatures will be in
the upper 70s with lows in the upper 30s and low 40s. Skies clear
out on Sunday but temperatures remain the same through Tuesday. A
new system arriving Wednesday brings another cool off, dropping
high temperatures into the low 70s and lows to the mid 30s. There
is also a chance for some isolated showers with this system but
forecast confidence is currently low.
&&
.AVIATION...Dry weather continues through tomorrow. Cloud cover
will remain limited with minimal areas of high-level clouds. VFR
conditions expected at all terminals with afternoon sustained
winds around 10KT at all sites and gusts up to 20KT possible at
KELY, KTPH, and KWMC.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...Elevated Fire weather conditions to continue
through Saturday, as SW flow aloft keeps dry surface conditions
and above normal temperatures across the region. Saturday
afternoon a upper level Pacific trough will make landfall over
southern Oregon, this trough is forecast to push into northern
Nevada Sunday and eventually stall over the northern great basin
and the Snake river valley Sunday through Wednesday of next week.
However this trough may bring critical fire weather conditions
beginning Sunday as it will increase SW winds for central NV and
Humboldt county, ahead of a cold front. Another negative factor is
this trough will be dry, as models show that what moisture
associated with this feature that makes it past the Sierras, will
likely only be enough to trigger a few isolated dry
thunderstorms. The one good factor is temperatures which have been
well above normal will cool back toward seasonal values.
